BEDLINOG 6 - BLACKWOOD 20
Blackwood secured their 6th win in a row with this victory over a fired up Bedlinog side at the Rec. Despite the incessant rain, and ensuing mud bath, both sides tried their best to move the ball and it made for an entertaining game. The home side played with the slope in the 1st half and their lively pack kept them going forward. Bedlinog scrumage was going well, but it was evened out with Mark Gwilt and Gareth Short dominating the line out. A Gareth Price penalty was sandwiched between two home ones, and to be honest Bedlinog did deserve their 6-3 lead at the break. It was a different story in the 2nd half with the Wood pack taking command in all facets of play. Pressure was building and finally the home side cracked, when Alex Borghese dived over, at least we thought it was him, but the home flood lights were shining so brightly it was hard to avoid the dazzle. Price converted. Backs and forwards then combined to send winger Joe Banana -as it said in the programme- away, but he was bundled out in the corner. The game was ended as a contest when David Brake barged over for the 2nd try which Price also converted. Wood showed their professionalism as they played out the remainder of time. Bedlinog put up a great effort, and if they keep that up I can't see them getting relegated. A final note regarding off field matters, big praise to Jason Burton, who averted a potential disaster by answering a phone call and related the details of where the missing Blackwood RFC toilet rolls were located, a relieved looking Club Chairman was last seen making his way to the cubicles for his afternoon ablutions with a paper under his arm Tony Evans |
